Are you preparing your New Year’s resolutions? And how about if in 2019, alongside dropping pounds and drinking less coffee, reaching meetings on time, and taking a month-long vacation in Bhutan, you also try to improve your work environment? We’ve spoken with seven people, and so we can offer quite a bit of inspiration on what a designer, manager, or architect might want to change.

"One thing I’m missing at our offices right now is greenery. Without flowers, our office feels downright sterile for me. As for the building itself, we’re struggling with a lack of parking spots in the underground garages nearby. I run into this problem every time we get a visitor."

"We mainly probably need a little more space, because there are more and more of us, and so we’re starting to run out of room. We also don’t have a wastebasket in our office at the moment, but that’s more an advantage than a disadvantage. We’re located at Impact Hub Praha, and when we have to go through an open-space on the way to the wastebasket, we get to meet lots of interesting people and stretch out our legs amid our days of sitting. We can recommend this sort of exercise to everyone.
One thing that everyone in our team should work on is cleaning their desks and organizing their things. Here we’ve got a heap of room for improvement."

"With a complete remodeling recently behind us, we see our HVAC as the building’s biggest handicap for our operations. Better thermal comfort, especially in the meeting rooms, is the only thing that’s missing at Prague City Center."

"We’d like to invest into technologies that would make it easier for us to work on shared projects from anywhere and in real time. And we face constant problems with getting our climate control to work and setting its temperature. This is something that should be thought through in the very first designs sent by office complexes’ architects. Moreover, our system is loud and doesn’t always want to cooperate—especially in the first days of winter."

"What’s important for me are people. And in light of the fact that I have the good fortune to be surrounded with good people at our offices, it’d be hard to change anything here. But if I may be immodest—and when else than at Christmas?—then: I’d like to have as many people around me as possible.
The environment that surrounds a company influences its approach and spirit. If we want our company to be an inspiration and motivation for people, then we have to surround ourselves with that kind of environment. Unfortunately our current building isn’t inspiring and motivating.
That’s why my wish would be to teleport our office to a space that’s full of inspiring and motivating companies that want to change the world just like we do."

"There have been many debates and studies on how spaces affect employees’ performance and satisfaction. Many real estate developers are working on methodologies for showing and quantifying this influence. Individual-work spaces, collaborative spaces, and relaxation and presentation spaces help to provide suitable places for different kinds of work. The use of contemporary technologies for accessing buildings, setting individual preferences, and creating one’s own space using digital tools amount to a further level here.
In the spaces where we work, the potential that the building offers can be harnessed more creatively. The courtyard balcony that adorns our building is partly made of glass. And these are precisely the places that could be improved with a few pieces of furniture to create spaces for relaxation. These would help to better diversify our working spaces and would help people to find an alternative environment.

"At our Břevnov office specifically, I’d definitely like to modernize the lighting. Light has an utterly fundamental influence on a working space’s environment, and right at this time of year, when I’m spending all day under artificial lighting, I realize this the most."
