When the outside world comes in. That's how they could use such a motto in the new HQ of the European Metropolis of Lille. In a record time of 18 months, the architects, with the help of virtual reality, managed to build a modern ecological building, one of the largest in the metropolis.
On an area of almost 30,000 m² there are lush roof gardens, broad skylights that flood the atrium with sunlight and outdoor balconies lined with gardens and terraced green roofs.
“We worked with local ecologist to ensure we had a good variety of native trees and plants throughout the building, and we aimed to implement them in a way that helps local well-being,” said Clara Stewart, Landscape Architect from Henning Larsen studio.
The building was designed with plenty of natural sunlight everywhere, so it's no wonder it is certified BREEAM excellent, WELL, E+C-, Biodiversity, and Wiredscore.
